John Travolta and Kelly Preston are the parents of a son, Jett Travolta.

Born at 12:22 a.m. EDT Monday at a Daytona Beach, Fla., hospital, Jett (no middle name) weighed 8 pounds, 12 ounces.

"They are already home and everybody's happy," said publicist Paul Bloch. Travolta, 38, and Preston, 29, wed in September.

Travolta and Preston, who are Scientologists, said in a statement that they prepared for "the smooth birth by following the method recommended in Dianetics by L. Ron Hubbard, which stresses complete silence during delivery." A spokeswoman for the Church of Scientology says Dianetics recommends no noise - from doctors, nurses or the mother - during delivery.

Dianetics says a child's "unconscious recordings" of noise at birth can "be the cause of irrational fears, compulsions, other unexplainable behavior" in later life.
