Scientology Lies

Scientology claims that a Clear no longer has a reactive mind, and is free of psychosomatic illnesses and aberrations.

An insert in a 2001 issue of Scientology's Validity magazine claimed that Clears have an IQ above 135, "Amazing vitality ... Radiant health ... Magnetic personality ...", and several other traits.

What Is Scientology? (1998) says "A Clear can still get sick, but this occurs much less often..." (p. 664) It also says a Clear is "freer from accidents" (p. 149).

Another Scientology magazine, Ability, has an article called "The State of Clear." In it, L. Ron Hubbard claims, "A Clear can be tested for any and all psychoses, neuroses, compulsions and repressions (all aberrations) and can be examined for any autogenetic (self-generated) diseases referred to as psychosomatic ills. These tests confirm the Clear to be entirely without such ills or aberrations." Scientology describes many illnesses as psychosomatic - far more than the scientific community.

Getting to Clear

Scientology promotes two routes to Clear: New Era Dianetics, and the Alternate Clear Route and the Clearing Course. New Era Dianetics can be done at Scientology missions and churches; The Alternate Clear Route is only available at Advanced Orgs, Saint Hill Orgs, and Flag. (WIS, pp. 244-245)

How Long and How Much?

Scientology claims it takes one to two years, on average, to go from "the bottom of the Grade Chart through Clear", while conceding that the time required varies. A preliminary analysis of Celebrity Centre data at the Scientology Statistics Project suggests that it takes about five years on average, and that only about 5%-10% of those who get involved in Scientology ever attest to Clear. There's also strong evidence that 65% of those who go Clear stop taking Scientology services within a year after doing so.

Since cost depends on how many hours of auditing are required, and whether the auditing is done with a fellow student or with a trained and certified auditor, the cost varies greatly from person to person. However, an estimate based on 1995 prices showed that it could easily cost $120,000 - $130,000 to go Clear.
